Danielle DiMartino-Booth is the Founder and President of Money Strong, LLC, and Author of Fed UP: An Insider's Take On Why The Federal Reserved Is Bad For America

She began her career in New York at Donaldson, Lufkin  & Jenrette, and Credit Suisse, where she worked fixed income and the public and private equity markets.

In the early 2000s, as a Wall Street escapee writing a financial column for the Dallas Morning News. DiMartino Booth attracted attention for her bold criticism of the Fed's low interest rate policies and her cautionary warnings about the bubbly housing market. Nobody was more surprised than she when the folks at the Dallas Federal Reserve invited her aboard. Figuring she could have more of an impact on Fed policies from the inside, she accepted the call to duty and rose to be one of Dallas Fed president Richard Fisher's closest advisors.

To her dismay, the culture at the Fed--and its leadership--were not just ignorant of the brewing financial crisis, but indifferent to its very possibility. They interpreted their job of keeping the economy going to mean keeping Wall Street afloat at the expense of the American taxpayer. But bad Fed policy created unaffordable housing, skewed incentives, rampant corporate financial engineering, stagnant wages, an exodus from the labor force, and skyrocketing student debt.

Today, the Federal Reserve is still controlled by 1,000 PhD economists and run by an unelected West Coast radical with no direct business experience. The Fed continues to enable Congress to grow our nation’s ballooning debt and avoid making hard choices, despite the high psychological and monetary costs. And our addiction to the "heroin" of low interest rates is pushing our economy towards yet another collapse.

"Fed Up" is DiMartino Booth's clarion call for a change in the way America's most powerful financial institution is run--before it's too late.  Her words are in laymen's term where we can get a firm understanding of the Fed and the intrigue behind closed doors.

Drawing upon her first-hand experiences at the Fed, this book illuminates how the Fed abdicated its responsibility to the American people both before and after the financial crisis– and how nobody within the Fed seems to have learned or changed from the experience.

  • Heads of the Federal Reserve are unelected    academics with no real business experience and yet exert a tremendous influence on the American economy.
  • Coastal Fed Banks  (New York, San Francisco) have a disproportionate amount of influence on monetary policy compared to Fed banks in the heartland (Cleveland, Dallas).
  • Economists at the Fed work with outdated data and defunct models in order to create policy that affects real Americans.
  • Staff at the Fed have a revolving door with Wall Street, especially Goldman Sachs.

Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin, M.D., M.B.A, served as the 18th Surgeon General under President Barack Obama. She also served as First Chair of the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council that developed the road map for the Nation’s Health called, The National Prevention Strategy. Before becoming “America’s Doctor,” she served her patients at the rural health clinic she founded in tiny Bayou La Batre, Alabama. Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, M.D., is a charismatic no-nonsense physician, nationally-renowned Board Certified Internist. He has the gift for simplifying even the most complicated topics. Dr. Rodriguez divides his time between two practices in Southern California.

While chronic health issues like Diabetes and Heart Disease are most often at the forefront of health conversations, Dr. Benjamin and Dr. Rodriguez will highlight that there are other health concerns that affect communities and that are often not talked about, including vaccine-preventable infectious diseases such as Pneumococcal Pneumonia.

Chronic diseases and disabilities are responsible for 7 of 10 deaths and is 86% of healthcare cost in the U.S.  The most common chronic diseases and conditions are; Heart Disease, Stroke, Cancer, Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity and Arthritis.  They are the most costly and preventable.

More than half of Adult Americans suffer from one chronic disease and 1 of 4 have 2 or more chronic health conditions.

An analysis from the Milken Institute determined that treatment of the 7 most common chronic diseases combined with productivity losses will cost the U.S. economy more than a $1.0 trillion dollars annually.  Health care spending increased 5.3 % in 2014, topping $3.0 trillion or $9,523 per person which is 17.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).  With the increased costs of Health care these numbers may cause more instability to the U.S. economy.

Dr. Benjamin and Dr. Rodriguez discuss:

  • Top Chronic Diseases in the U.S.
  • Why Chronic Diseases increases risk for pneumonia.
  • Preventions.
  • Cultural Barriers.
  • What Alarms Dr. Benjamin the most.

Dr. Allison Webel, RN, Ph.D, is the lead author of Living a Healthy Life with HIV. She is Assistant Professor of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Webel is a prominent researcher, educator, writer, and speaker in the field of HIV/AIDS self-management, global health and behavior change.

More than 1.2 million people in U.S. are living with HIV and over half of them are over 50.  The World Health Organization and UNAIDS estimate there  were 36.9 million people globally living with  HIV in 2014.

Although it’s no longer a death sentence due to new anti-retroviral medication,  the assumption that HIV is now “cured” is not accurate.  Some 7,000 people a year still die of AIDS.  HIV stigma and shame have been found to negatively impact people living with HIV, affecting their willingness to seek treatment or stick with the complicated regiment of medications that are critical to maintaining health and reducing HIV transmission over the long term.  Patients who feel stigmatized can wind up isolated and without the will to manage their disease.

To live a long and healthy life with the disease, patients need to take responsibility for their own treatment.  This means being on top of the illness, paying less attention to daily signs and symptoms, reducing stress, eating healthy nutritious foods, getting exercise, working with a medical team and getting support from their community.

Dr. Webel and I discuss:

  • How HIV treatments have changed for the better over the last 20 years.
  • Whether HIV positive people should reveal their HIV status and to whom.
  • What are the side effects of HIV meds.
  • Whether or not it is safe to exercise at the same level as people without HIV.
  • Can HIV positive women safely have children; will their babies be HIV positive and;
  • How HIV affects people as they age and what plans should they make for the future.

Do a F.A.S.T check on new or worsening symptoms:

Fever of 101°F or more
Altered mental status
Severity compared to previous symptoms
Typical or unusual?

Living a Healthy Life with HIV is a practical, easy-to-understand book with content that will help not only patients, but also friends and family members who support anyone dealing with HIV.

It stresses that to succeed in living to a ripe old age with HIV the most important skill is learning to respond to your illness on an ongoing basis to solve day-to-day problems as they arise.  The approach the authors of Living a Healthy Life with HIV take--simple, concrete steps to help people find their own answers--has proven to be the approach that works best.

Dr. Timothy Jennings, M.D., Psychiatrist and Author of "The God Shaped Brain."

We will discuss how brain research in neuroscience has found that our thoughts and beliefs affect our physical, mental and spiritual health.  Mind and body are interrelated, and we are designed for healthy relationships of love and trust.  When we understand God as good and loving, we flourish.

Unfortunately, many of us have distorted images of God and mostly think of him in fearful, punitive ways.  This leads us into unhealthy patterns of self-defeating behaviors and toxic relationships.  But our lives can change when God renews our minds with a truer picture of him.

Psychiatrist Tim Jennings will unveil how our brains and bodies thrive when we have a healthy understanding of who God is.  He will dispel common misconceptions about God and shows how different God concepts affect the brain differently.

How our brains can adapt, change and rewire with redeemed thinking that frees us from unnecessary pain and suffering. And, discover how neuroscience and Scripture come together to bring healing and transformation to our lives.

John Hope Bryant, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Operation Hope. He serves for President Obama as Chairman of the President's Advisory Council on Financial Capability

John is also the author of "How The Poor Can Save Capitalism, Rebuilding The Path To The Middle Class."

Social Entrepreneur John Hope Bryant explores why raising our voices in protest when we disagree with our leaders makes us a stronger nation.  But, raising our hands in violent retribution only causes additional suffering.  In Ferguson, destruction of small businesses means that a community that had few jobs, now has significantly less.

Unfortunately, protestors are hurting businesses that have nothing to do with the injustices of Ferguson's criminal justice system.  By destroying these businesses it has caused huge economic losses for no only the business owners, but the employees of these businesses, which can deflect from the tragedy of the loss of Michael Brown.

  • John discusses his thoughts about Ferguson.
  • What are the underline factors  of the civil unrest in Ferguson.
  • Are there parallels with Rodney King, Trevon Martin, and Michael Brown.
  • How economics and education and ownership are the keys.

We would like to thank John and Berrett-Koehler Publishers for providing a few copies of his book.  For those listeners who would like to receive a complimentary copy of "How The Poor Can Save Capitalism", please email you name and address to theminacollinsshow@gmail.com

Peter Zeihan, "The Accidental Superpower" The Next Generation of American Preeminence and the Coming Global Disorder

International Strategist Peter Zeihan examines how the hard rules of geography are eroding the American commitment to free trade; how much of the planet is aging into mass retirement that will enervate markets and capital supplies; and how, against all odds, it is the ever ravenous American economy alone along the developed nations  that is rapidly approaching energy independence.  The Accidental Superpower also explores shale oil and its surprising key role in America's move towards energy independence and how it will shape (and is already shaping) American life for the next fifty years.

Peter addresses the following issues:

  • Why China will never challenge U.S. economic dominance.
  • How our internal waterways will save us from financial collapse.
  • Why the Strait of Hormuz, once a position of leverage that Iran could use against the world, is still a pressure point--not just Iran's.
  • How the Shale Oil boom will provide economic stability in a increasingly unstable world.
  • What are the economic outcomes of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
